The Valley Blanche is the name given for the valley running from the Aiguille du Midi at 3842 m down to Montenvers railway station at 1900 m. From there its possible to catch the quaint red funicular train to town or ski the James Bond track down. The cable car to the Aiguille du Midi was the highest in the World for many years until the record was broken by a few feet! It still holds the record for being the highest elevation gain in the World and it is a door that opens out into another world of snow, ice, and stunning peaks. In winter the snow covered glaciers provide relatively gentle skiing down France’s longest glacier system known as the Mer de Glace (sea of ice) for 20 km.
Although the incredible natural beauty of the area may lull you into thinking this is a benign ski run, its has no markers, ski patrol or avalanche control and comes with hidden crevasses and route finding hazards that make hiring a mountain guide a smart investment for your group’s safety.
For those staying in one of Aosta Valley’s many resorts, I can meet you at the Skyway lift and we can ski to Chamonix where a bus can take you back through the Mont Blanc Tunnel to Skyway.
Its also possible to take groups of 1:4 guide:client ratio on the more adventurous varient runs that lie within the Valley Blanche but please contact me with our requirements.
