The Grand Finale and what could be a better way to finish the Chamonix ski season on a high other than to ski one of Mont Blanc’s finest routes on the Vast and Grandiose east face. With our weekend only lift openings this was always great gonna be a big fast moving day, not only due to lack of acclimatization but also the unknown conditions with not constantly being in the mountains. This one was for our Italian friends @lucamartini87 and @edocamardella who were devastatingly taken by the white dragon on the first day of the season. Luca was one of my closest friends and over the past 3 years we had spent so many days skiing in the high mountain, biking in Finale and drinking as much as possible. He welcomed me to his family and friends. Good times, always remembered with a smile and never forgotten. I only knew Eduardo from chatting on the cable cars but his spirit was the same and he had the glint in his eye before the powder days. A crushing experience to see the devastation on the loved ones, let alone deal with it yourself. I know they would have loved it up there in their home turf on the savage and beautiful Italian side of Mont Blanc. The debate about risk will go on forever, unfortunately unlike most sports, skiing and flying don’t give much feedback on near misses, often it’s all good until it isn’t. This fabulous day was shared with my good buddy @tom_grant_ who I have shared adventures to many far flung places including Baffin and New Zealand’s rad mountains. Hopefully we will have a few more before I’m too old. These days and those biking in Finale and apero in the medieval citadel with friends are the finest life has to offer. Peace my friends.

Grand Gervasutti today was still skiing nicely in upper half on sweet corn. Always a fun run and only an hour away from the Midi so really a lift accesses piste for the Chamoniard young guns, and the major ski line dominating the Valley Blanche. I guess everyone is still mildly euphoric after being let loose from their cages. Meeting old friends and familiar faces today at the Aiguille du Midi and hearing their plans of making the impossible always inspires. A beautiful day to be high and reacclimatize on Mont Blanc du Tacul 4248m with my buddy @tom_grant_ That return of that feeling of surfin down mountain on perfect powder was so welcome. That amazing moment when you slap your skis on the Midi arete and ski out into the world of light. First turns for me after 2 month lockdown.
