Good for the soul
Les Droites North Face and the brilliant Colton Brooks Route. This is from a few years back when Es Tresider and myself went light and fast with mini skis for an up, over, and back home in same day style. #lesdroites #climbing #alpinism #mixedclimbing #iceclimbing #climbing_pictures_of_instagram #mountainguide #ifmga #weareifmga #bmg #training #nutrition #fitness #outdoors #outside #adventure #mountains #rosshewittguiding
Looking forward to swinging the tools this winter. Photo by @andy_houseman at Mont Saxonnex crag a few years back of me leading belayed by @milesbrightalpineguide. Winter is coming and the days are getting short, but not long now till the solstice. It’s time to start dreaming up and planning your next adventures whether it’s some specific life goal or simply just and opportunity to catch some winter sun in the Alps. Whatever floats your boat, ice or mixed climbing, free ride or touring, crevasse rescue or avalanche awareness,...all while wearing a pink business suit, no problem!...send me an email and let’s discuss how to make it happen. rosshewittguiding@yahoo.com. If I’m really honest I used to dread getting up in the middle of the night and heading out into the cold and dark. What changed? Well I focus on the positive, that it’s going to be a fun adventure, the anticipation of a glorious sunrise 🌄, and that it’s always better outside than inside. 📸@searlerdave The story and photos from our trip to NZ is up on the website. My last week in New Zealand was spent predominantly in board shorts, hanging out with good friends, drinking beer, swimming in the sea, drinking more beer, paddle boarding lakes and rivers, and some quality rock climbing. It was great to have packed the skis away knowing we’d done what we could and free the mind from monitoring the weather and brainstorming how to do things. I have to admit to lacking much motivation coming back from summer mode NZ to the short, cold days of European pre winter season - not just because of the 12 hour jetlag but come nightfall at 5 pm and the energy drain is like someone flicked the switch off. Anyway today was about getting out, creating energy and getting motivated. Achieving 2 out of 3 ain’t so bad and my lack of motivation isn’t entirely due to the comedown form skiing tomorrow rad big faces in primo conditions - today Pierre et Ric resembles frozen avalanche debris for the first half then reminded me of skiing on a ploughed farmers field with 2 inches of snow in Scotland when I was a grom. Thanks to @searlerdave for the company and banter.
What a great present flying home from New Zealand and being welcomed home with these arial views of Chamonix Mont Blanc in winter mode. With the lifts opening soon I can’t wait to get out ski guiding. DM me or click the website link in my bio for more info on guides ski adventures.
Emphemeral signatures, a brief moment in time and history, erased as quickly as they were made but never forgotten. With @searlerdave and @bfredlund @blackcrows_skis
The mighty East Face of Aoraki (Mt Cook) which has deservedly earned classic status amongst the modern Freeride fraternity. To give an idea of scale it’s like one Col de Cristaux stacked on top of another. Legend has it that after Raki the Sky Father married the Earth Mother Pap-tai-nuku, the celestial Sky Children consisting of the 4 brothers Aoraki, Raki-roa, Raki-rua, Raraki-roa came down to earth in a canoe known as Te Waki o Aoraki. After cruising around Papa-tua-nuku they set out to explore but found no land. They decided to return to their celestial home but the incantation which was lifting their canoe failed and they fell back into the sea and capsized, turning to stone in the process. As the brothers clambered ontop and reached for the sky they also turned to stone. Aoraki is the highest peak, Rarakiroa (Mt Tasman), Rakiroa (Mt Dampier) and Rakirua (Teichelmann) making up the dividing chain. One man’s (or celestial being’s) loss is another man’s gain as they say and man certainly gained from the creation of these beautiful mountains. @blackcrows_skis @plum_officiel #newzealand #aoraki #mountcook #skiing #freeride #skitouring #julboathlete #helmetup #petzl #nutrition #health #fitness #mountains #nature #outside #outdoors #adventure #weareifmga #ifmga #bmg #mountainguide #chamonix
