Croulante Couloir Les Courtes

The 600/700 m line of the Croulante Couloir in red.  I skied Angelique on the left last year – http://rosshewittblog.wordpress.com/2012/02/22/couloir-angelique-traverse-of-les-courtes/

After having the Chamonix ‘cough’ for a couple of weeks I was getting fed up and wanted to get some long days training in. With high wind forecast at altitude and 60% sun we decide to go the long way to the Courtes from the Midi with the idea as the weather deteriorated, we could turn round. It is a fair hoof in there but 6 hrs of up was just what the doctor ordered.

Still miles away.

Getting closer. Just as well, the sun beats down in the Talefre basin like the Sahara.

I tried this route 15 years ago, solo, from first bin in February. That time I was nuked by the sun by this point.

Flat light as some high cloud comes in. The snow was hard anyway.

Helbronner

Today I went to the Helbronner which is one of my favourite places to ski with big faces, arretes and long couloirs. We started off with a run under the cables with Cedric Bernardini, Luca Pandolfi and Tom Grant and found good sluffing snow.  After another couple of laps there we were joined by Dave Searle and Ally Fulton and went for a team social ski down the Marbree to finish.

Team Angry Burds

Our friend Leanne dragged Michelle out for her first rando race this week. It was the first time on those skinny skis and ankle high boots on a Planards piste that had been watered for the FIS slalom. Well done to them for winning their category. I might let myself be dragged along again to watch more fit girls in lycra racing.

Kilian won the men’s. He tagged the Verte that day from Midi 1st bin and skied Whymper too. Michelle had a similar day sitting on her bum eating cake (carbo loading) at home.

Kinky Boots. Over a grands worth of Italian Carbon Fibre Porn. Stop moaning how much your freeride kit costs. Not sure what the heal nipple is for.
