June Skiing

Here’s the latest edit from Nate:

The Grand Gerva

At last the Gervasutti Couloir on Tacul. A dream for over ten years. Each time I skied the Vallee Blanche there it was, like the ultimate temptress.  Its one of my top 3 ski lines alongside the Couturier and Marinelli. All unbroken ski lines on stunning mountains.

Tom and myself headed up off the first bin and on Tacul met Nate who came over to the top to evaluate conditions with his connoisseur’s eye. It didn’t take him long to decide abandon his own plans for the day and come for an unexpected run!

Thanks guys!

The North Face of Aiguille du Midi – Eugster Couloir

The plan was to go to the Grand Gervasutti on Tacul with sunshine forecast. Tom and myself had bivouacked the previous night to get an early start but half way up Tacul in 20 m visibility it became clear that the weather had changed and we turned round and returned to the Midi completely rimed up battling the cloud and wind. Arriving at the Midi the next morning we found out that opening was delayed till 1030 so that put and end to that Gervasutti attempt. Instead we settled for a run down the North Face in Eugster Couloir. Back at the mid-station there was some technical hitch and we waited several hours until 1830 to get down. Not a good logistics day at the Midi!

Thanks to Tom, Mika and Marcus for a good day out. Eugster-2 Eugster-12 Eugster-16 Eugster-21 Eugster-28 Eugster-31 Eugster-32Mika took the following photos – Thanks Mika!

Frendo Fail

We went up to ski the Frendo and take photos but the overnight rain level had risen too high. Even Ben wasn’t keen for the hard snow on the lower half and the top half had only seen an angry inch.

The disappointment was soon at the back of our minds as we enjoyed some fast flowing velvet down an Envers variant reminding us that low angled can be really fun.Frendo team-2An unhappy Mikko
